Hi, my name is Tijana Petkovic and I’m a Partner at one of Sydney’s leading family law firms – Blanchfield Nicholls.
In 2016, I was promoted to Partner after working in the family law jurisdiction for almost 10 years in private practice and as a legal associate to two Judges of the Family Court.
I decided to pursue a career in family law because I enjoy helping and working with people, and the work is challenging and very interesting. Relationship breakdown is one of the most stressful times in people’s lives especially if young children are involved. I pride myself on offering practical and sensible solutions so that matters can resolve as quickly and as painlessly as possible, for the benefit of the parties and their children.
I’ve had experience in all aspects of family law including property settlements with significant asset pools and complex business structures, spouse maintenance claims, child support, living arrangements for children, cases involving allegations of family violence and child abuse, overseas relocation and matters pursuant to The Hague Child Abduction Convention. I have a special interest in matters with international elements including matters where jurisdiction is in dispute, assets held across other jurisdictions and where a parent wants to relocate with the child overseas.
I am a member of the Family Law Section of The Law Council of Australia, the Women Lawyers Association of NSW and I’m on the committee of Women’s Nexus – a business and professional women’s networking organization because I’m passionate about women’s rights. I hope that one day we can achieve equal pay and opportunities just like our male colleagues in the workplace, which unfortunately is still far from reality.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my fur babies and husband as well as travel to local or overseas destinations. I’ve also taken the opportunity to work with other professionals on different projects and recently organised and presented a workshop with a financial planner and a real estate agent, on the topic of How to Grow and Protect your Wealth.
