I was raised in Marks Point, Lake Macquarie and attended Swansea High School. With the marks I obtained at high school I was able to get into a Bachelor of Commerce Degree at University of NSW.
I then applied for a cadetship at KPMG. I started working straight from high school and attended University part-time, which provided me with the funds to move to Sydney. I was driven to move out of home and move to Sydney because I felt it was much more exciting than Newcastle!
After 2 years of settling into Sydney, I then attended University full time and worked part time and in the holidays.
I’m now a Chartered Accountant, Tax Agent and SMSF Auditor. I chose this career path because I am passionate about superannuation and tax and advising clients on this complicated area.
I like achieving the best tax outcome for a client and educating them on the superannuation laws so that they can maximise the benefits available through super.
I was motivated and confident to succeed from a young age and was lucky to have a father who always encouraged me to strive for what I wanted and work hard to achieve goals.
My father also taught me about the power of networking. He knew so many people and they loved him. I still have fond memories of walking up the main street of Belmont with him and he would stop and have a chat with almost everyone along the way. I even remember holidaying in foreign countries with him and he would always run into someone he knew or if he didn’t know them, he would start up a conversation with a stranger and make friends easily.
In my spare time, I love ocean swimming and power yoga. I swim a minimum of 4 times a week early morning down at Balmoral and love swimming at Manly when the conditions are favourable. Other hobbies include walking and cooking.
I’m super excited to announce that we’ve recently purchased another accounting practice which will enable us to build relationships with new clients and continue to build the self-managed super fund client base.
Our aim is to take on more staff over the coming years in order to step back from the day-to-day work and spend more one-on-one time with clients.
My five keys to success are: keeping up to date with legislative changes, making complex laws understandable, looking after clients’ best interests, weathering the tough times and embracing change.
