Hi, my name is Dijana (pronounced Diyana) but everyone calls me Dee and I’m currently the founder of Candle Meadow Soy Candles. I live in Camden NSW region and it really is the best place on earth, surrounded by farms, markets, cows, fresh produce and very friendly people.
I used to spend hundreds of dollars on candles and that’s what gave me the initiative to start making my own candles and save money at the same time. I also discovered I could create amazing quality candles with a great selection of fragrances to choose from for a lot less!
Although, I have a start up business I also work with my fiancé doing admin within his business. I’m so grateful my fiancé has given me the opportunity to start up my own little workshop within his business to create my beautiful range of candles.
When I’m not working in my business, most of my free time is spent with my family and I couldn’t live without them and I wouldn’t be where I am today and be the person I am without them too. My mother and sister are my two biggest mentors. They have been a great influence on me growing up, supporting me through the toughest and best times of my life. They taught me to appreciate the smallest of things and to never judge someone by how they look or where they have come from and from that I have met the best people. In my spare time, I enjoy going to the movies, the smell of popcorn and the big screen in front of my face is a getaway. I also love walking my two pugs to Cronulla Beach because the smell of fresh air and sea salt is rejuvenating.
I am so happy I have found my passion to create and make candles. I find the process so therapeutic and entertaining. It’s truly something that inspires me each and everyday. I love going to work and coming up with more and more ideas, it’s just something that I automatically want to do. In no way do I look at it as a chore but something I absolutely love to do! Seeing every bit of love I put into my work and then seeing quality results is truly rewarding.
My five keys of success are
2. Be confident for what you do. If you love what you are doing then you are definitely confident, what is even better is the positive feedback from your customers, being confident in what you do for the love of what you do should just comes naturally.
5. Being organized! There is one thing I’ve learnt and that is to be prepared from paper work to labeling, print offs, these are all necessary things for the production of candles. Always be aware of the calm before the storm. Satisfied customers will always send referrals your way and that’s when you get the many more sales often called the rush. Take advantage of the days when you are quiet to start stocking up and preparing yourself for the next big rush. Don’t let that quiet time fool you because that’s a time when you should continue being productive.
In the near future, I will have more products on offer instead of just candles and melts. I’m in the process of finding other options for fragrances, body oils, diffusers, hand wash and soaps. I am super excited to be promoting and marketing my business and my five year goal is to have my candle range distributed and sold in many health and beauty stores Australia wide. The one thing I really believe is to keep looking forward and even at times when you think it’s not going to happen, just think of how far you have come to get to where you are! Don’t stop! Perseverance is the key!
